The workshop is designed to educate participants on examination of appellate court decisions which have affected, changed or amended the manner in which motor vehicle and liability policies are interpreted and enforced within this jurisdiction.
Target Audience: Brokers, agents, underwriters, claims assessors, insurance professionals.
At the end of the session participants will:
- Understand the judicial appellate courts’ function and powers as applicable to Trinidad and Tobago;
- Comprehend how the judicial process and common law decisions shape legislation/legislative reform utilizing cases originating from Trinidad & Tobago;
- Understand contractual interpretation tools used by the appellate courts to interpret insurance policies/contracts;
- Evaluate the effect of the decisions and whether the appellate courts’ interpretation overreach the legislation/contract it sets out to interpret.
Stephanie Boodoosingh, LLB (Hons), AIC, LEC, FCILA, FIFAA, ACII, FUEDI-ELAE has over thirteen (13) years’ experience in the Insurance Industry as a Property Loss Adjuster. Her specialization is in domestic property, liability insurances and commercial insurance lines. She is a practicing civil litigation Attorney-at-Law acting as Legal Counsel for insurance companies in their civil litigation matters.
Among her many accolades, Ms. Boodoosingh holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of the West Indies and Legal Education Certificate (LEC). On the insurance front, her professional designations include Chartered Insurance Practitioner (CIP) with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) and Fellow of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations (FIFAA).
