Ransomware is a type of cryptovirological malware that permanently block access to the victim’s personal data unless a ransom is paid. While some simple ransomware may lock the system without damaging any files, more advanced malware uses a technique called cryptoviral extortion.

The options for dealing with a ransomware attack may look bleak — lose your data if you don’t pay and lose your information if you do. Yet if your organization is victimized by a ransomware attack, complying with the demand for funds is never the ideal solution. The world of Ransomware has evolved, so much so, that access to the same is easily available, not only to criminals, but normal people as well. This workshop is designed to sensitize you on “world of Ransomware”, how it can affect you, your business, and the measures that can be taken to help mitigate its effect.

Cybersecurity – Demystifying Ransomware Anish Bachu is an experienced cyber security professional attached to the Trinidad and Tobago Cyber Security Incident Response Team (TT-CSIRT) under the Ministry of National Security. He is the team lead for financial services sector security and heath sector security. His duties range from incident response, vulnerability and threat monitoring at a national level and cyber security assessments of government systems and infrastructure. Anish graduated from St. John’s University in New York with a BSc in Cyber Security Systems and a Masters of Business Administration in Information Systems and Decision Science. He is also a member of the Cyber Security Industry Advisory Board at St. John’s for their BSc and MSc programs.   The Data Protection Act and You Sarita Parsad is an Attorney-at-law who currently holds the position of Head, Legal & Compliance at Trinidad & Tobago Insurance Limited (TATIL) where she is responsible for all compliance related issues across T & T and Barbados. She has over sixteen (16) years’ experience in the industry and is versed in dealing with insurance regulatory matters and all issues pertaining to insurance property and casualty claims. Sarita who holds the ACAMS professional qualification, also provides her expertise on compliance education to the insurance industry as an active member of ATTIC’s FRAC Committee and the TTII’s Council of Trustees. Ms. Parsad is a highly qualified professional holding a Masters in Law Degree (LLM, Corporate and Commercial Law) from the University of the West Indies, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Henley School of Business, UK, a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) and an Advanced Diploma (ACII) from the Chartered Insurance Institute in the UK where she is a Member of the Society of Claims Professionals. She is currently enrolled in the Fellowship Program at the Chartered Insurance Institute and recently completed her MSc in Insurance and Sustainable Risk Management at Glasgow Caledonian University, UK.
